DESIGN TREND UPDATE | Crazy Colours
2018 is the year of colour!
The velvets and jewel tones of last season are still going strong especially for upholstery and cushions.
Velvets in jewel tones
Velvets are in vogue, padded velvets, semi-plain velvets and even the brand new digitally printed velvets such as Clarke and Clarke Animalia collection designed by Emma J Shipley.
Dusky Colours
For a modern look focus on dusky moody colours – blues, dark violets, indigos, and emerald greens.
Combine these with dark walls or dark wood and metallics
Coordinate or Clash
There are two ways to bring a splash of colour to your interior; coordinating and contrasting.
- Match all the colours for an understated effect
2. Clash and contrast colours and use a mixture of many fabrics and textures.
To match or clash colours effectively you need to see where it is positioned on the colour wheel. Colours near to a colour will complement it and colours opposite each other will contrast creating a colour pop. You can use this to create some either subtle matches or startling clashes.
Reflecting the natural world
Use fabrics that reflect the natural world while creating a bold statement and a luxurious look. The Fiji collection by Clarke and Clarke looks like agate or marble and comes in bright colours and gives a shot silk-like sheen with a watermark for a fraction of the price.
Ice cream parlour
Another look to try would be to go for ice cream tones.
Use naturally textured materials in calming pastel colours, mix with greys for a modern Pinterest and Instagram friendly look.
